Questions these calculators answer

How is land tax calculated in NSW?

Revenue NSW applies a general threshold: land value below it attracts no tax, and value above it is taxed at a fixed amount plus a percentage of the excess. A second premium threshold applies a higher rate above a much larger value. Your principal place of residence is generally exempt and excluded from the total.

How is land tax calculated in Victoria?

The State Revenue Office applies a banded schedule to the total site value of all taxable land you hold at 31 December. Nothing is payable below $50,000; from there it runs $500, then $975, then $1,350 plus 0.3% above $300,000, stepping up to $31,650 plus 2.65% above $3 million. Your principal place of residence is exempt and excluded from the total.

How is luxury car tax calculated?

Take the GST-inclusive price, subtract the threshold, multiply what remains by 10/11 to remove the GST component, then apply 33%. A vehicle at $110,000 against an $80,809 threshold has $29,191 of excess, which becomes $26,537 after removing GST, giving $8,757 of LCT.

How is redundancy pay taxed in Australia?

Part of a genuine redundancy payment is tax free: a base amount plus a set amount for each completed year of service. The remainder is an employment termination payment, taxed at a concessional rate up to the ETP cap and at the top marginal rate above it. Unused annual leave is taxed separately again.

How much is rego in NSW?

For a privately used light vehicle it is an $84 registration fee plus a vehicle tax set by tare weight, which runs from $278 for a car under 970 kg to $1,164 at the top of the light-vehicle scale. A green slip is compulsory on top and is bought separately from an insurer.

How much is car registration in WA?

The licence fee is $29.76 for every 100 kg of tare weight, rounded up, plus a $9.70 recording fee and a $6.60 prescribed fee for a twelve month renewal. Motor injury insurance for a Class 1A private car adds $629.81 including GST and insurance duty.

How much tax will I pay on my income in Australia?

For 2026-27 an Australian resident pays nothing on the first $18,200, 15% from $18,201 to $45,000, 30% to $135,000, 37% to $190,000 and 45% above that, plus the 2% Medicare levy. On $90,000 that is $17,520 tax and $1,800 Medicare, leaving $70,680.

How do I add or remove GST in Australia?

Australian GST is 10%. To add it, multiply the price by 1.1. To remove it from a GST-inclusive price, divide by 11 to find the GST itself, or divide by 1.1 to find the price before GST. A $1,100 price includes $100 of GST and was $1,000 before it.

How do I convert my salary to hourly and take-home pay?

Multiply an hourly rate by your weekly hours and 52 weeks to get an annual salary, or divide an annual salary by the same figure to get an hourly rate. At $45 an hour for 38 hours a week that is $88,920 a year, and after tax and the Medicare levy about $69,946 take-home.

How do I estimate my tax refund in Australia?

Work out your taxable income by taking deductions off your income, calculate the tax and Medicare levy on it, then subtract that from the tax already withheld on your income statement. If $17,800 was withheld and $85,000 less $1,800 of deductions gives $17,144 of tax and levy, the refund is about $656.

How do I work out the Medicare levy surcharge?

If you do not have private hospital cover and your income for MLS purposes is above $105,000 as a single (or $210,000 as a family, plus $1,500 for each child after the first), you pay 1%, 1.25% or 1.5% of that income in surcharge. A single on $130,000 without cover pays 1.25%, which is $1,625.

How much tax do I save by salary sacrificing into super?

You save the difference between your marginal tax rate and the 15% contributions tax on the amount sacrificed. On a $95,000 salary sacrificing $10,000, income tax and Medicare fall by $3,200, the fund pays $1,500 contributions tax, and you keep about $1,700 more than if you had taken the cash and saved it after tax.

How do I calculate my work from home deduction?

Multiply the hours you worked from home by the ATO fixed rate of 70 cents. 1,200 hours is $840. You need a record of the hours actually worked, kept for the whole year, and the deduction saves tax at your marginal rate, about $269 for someone on $95,000.

How do I calculate my car deduction using cents per km?

Multiply your business kilometres, up to 5,000, by the ATO rate. At 88 cents, 3,500 km is $3,080. The rate covers fuel, servicing, registration, insurance and depreciation, so you cannot claim those separately. You must be able to show how you worked out the kilometres, such as a diary, and it saves about $986 in tax on $95,000.

How is fringe benefits tax calculated?

Take the taxable value of the benefit, multiply by the gross-up rate (2.0802 if the employer can claim a GST credit, 1.8868 if not), then multiply by 47%. How is capital gains tax calculated in Australia?

Subtract your cost base from the sale proceeds to get the capital gain, subtract any capital losses, and halve it if you held the asset for more than 12 months as an Australian resident. The result is added to your taxable income. A $250,000 gain with a 50% discount on a $90,000 income adds about $47,600 of tax and levy.

How much land tax do I pay in Queensland?

Add up the taxable value of all your Queensland land at 30 June. An individual pays nothing below $600,000, then $500 plus $1.00 per $100 up to $1 million, and $4,500 plus $1.65 per $100 above it. On $1,500,000 that is $12,750; a company or trust pays $21,000. Your home is generally exempt.

State taxes are genuinely different taxes

Land tax is the clearest example of why a single national calculator does not work. New South Wales and Victoria use different thresholds, different rate steps and different treatment of the principal place of residence, and they change independently of each other. A tool that averages them is wrong in both states.

So they are built as separate pages against separate published schedules, each linking to the revenue office that issues it.
