Australian leave and employment calculators
Leave entitlements in Australia come from the National Employment Standards, and the arithmetic is more particular than most people expect: four weeks of annual leave is not twenty days for everyone, and paid personal leave is ten days expressed as a proportion of ordinary hours rather than a fixed number of shifts.

How much annual leave do you accrue per week?
Four weeks of ordinary hours a year under the National Employment Standards, accruing progressively. For a 38-hour week that is 152 hours a year, or 2.923 hours for every week worked. Part-time employees accrue at the same rate proportional to their ordinary hours, so a 19-hour week accrues 1.462 hours weekly.
How many sick days do you get in Australia?
Ten days of paid personal and carer's leave a year under the National Employment Standards, which is 76 hours on a 38-hour week. It accrues progressively and rolls over year to year with no cap. Part-time employees get the same ten days proportional to their ordinary hours.
How do I convert an hourly rate to an annual salary in Australia?
Multiply the hourly rate by the hours you work each week and by 52, the weeks in a year. $40 an hour at 38 hours a week is $79,040 a year. To compare a casual rate with a salary, divide the hourly rate by 1.25 first, because the loading stands in for leave a casual does not get.
How much super should my employer pay?
Your employer must pay 12% of your qualifying earnings (ordinary time earnings plus other regular pay) into your super fund, on top of your salary, up to the maximum contribution base. On a salary of $95,000 that is $11,400 a year. If your quoted figure is a package that includes super, divide it by 1.12 to find the salary.
How do I calculate a pay rise?
Multiply your salary by 1 plus the rise: a 5% rise on $85,000 gives $89,250. After tax and the Medicare levy you take home about $2,890 more a year, which is $111.15 a fortnight, because the extra $4,250 is taxed at 32% (30% plus the 2% levy).
How do I calculate casual loading?
Multiply the base hourly rate by 1.25 to get the casual rate: a $30 base rate becomes $37.50. To find the base rate from a casual rate, divide by 1.25, not subtract 25%: a $37.50 casual rate is a $30 base rate. The 25% is the usual loading under most modern awards, but some awards and agreements set a different one.
How do I calculate overtime pay in Australia?
Multiply the base hourly rate by the overtime multiplier and the hours worked in each band. At $36 an hour, 2 hours at time and a half plus 3 hours at double time is $324.00. Your award decides the multipliers and when overtime starts, so enter the ones that apply to you.
What is the minimum wage in Australia?
From 1 July 2026 the national minimum wage is $26.44 an hour, or $1,004.90 for a 38-hour week, following the Fair Work Commission's Annual Wage Review. A casual employee must be paid at least 25% more, or $33.05 an hour, and most award rates rose by 4.75%. Many employees are covered by an award that sets a higher rate.
How much notice must my employer give me in Australia?
An employer must give 1 week's notice for up to 1 year of service, 2 weeks for 1 to 3 years, 3 weeks for 3 to 5 years and 4 weeks beyond 5 years, plus an extra week if you are over 45 and have at least 2 years of service. An employee with 6 years' service aged 47 is owed 5 weeks' notice, and, if made redundant, 11 weeks of redundancy pay.
How do I calculate annual leave loading?
Multiply your base pay for the leave by 17.5%. Four weeks at $40 an hour for 38 hours is $6,080, and the loading is $1,064, making the leave payment $7,144. Some awards pay the greater of the loading or the penalties you would have earned, so shift workers can receive more.
How do I calculate hours worked on a timesheet?
Subtract the start time from the finish time and then take off any unpaid break. A 9:00 am start and 5:30 pm finish with a 30-minute break is 8 hours. If the shift finishes after midnight, add 24 hours to the finish before subtracting. Add the days up for the week, and compare the total with your ordinary hours to find any overtime.
How do I calculate long service leave?
In most states you accrue about 0.87 weeks (roughly 8.67 weeks per 10 years) of paid leave for each year of continuous service, with the right to take or be paid it after 10 years in NSW, Queensland, WA, SA and Tasmania and 7 years in Victoria. South Australia accrues 13 weeks over the first 10 years. Multiply the weeks by your weekly pay for the dollar value.
How do I count working days in Australia?
Count the days between the two dates that are not weekends and not public holidays. Australia's national holidays are New Year's Day, Australia Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and each state adds its own. From 30 March to 30 April 2026 there are 32 calendar days and 22 working days after skipping the national holidays.
How do I compare two job offers?
Compare the take-home pay after tax plus the retirement contributions and benefits, less the extra costs of the job. Offer A at $95,000 and offer B at $105,000 plus a $5,000 bonus, with $3,000 and $6,500 of commuting costs, are worth $82,480 and $90,380 a year, a difference of $7,900 in favour of offer B.
How do I convert a salary to an hourly rate?
Divide the salary by the hours you are paid for in a year: hours a week times 52. $85,000 on 38 hours a week is $43.02 an hour on paid hours. If you take 28 paid days off, you actually work fewer hours, and the rate for the hours worked is $48.21. Use the second figure to compare with contractor or casual rates.
How do I convert fortnightly pay to monthly?
Work out the yearly amount first, then divide by the new period. $3,100 fortnightly is $80,600 a year, which is $6,716.67 a month, $1,550.00 a week and $3,100.00 a fortnight. Monthly pay is yearly pay รท 12, so multiplying a fortnightly amount by two under-counts it by about one pay in a year.
How much redundancy pay am I entitled to?
The minimum depends on continuous service, from 4 weeks' pay at one year, rising to 16 weeks at nine years, then 12 weeks from ten years. With 6 years of service you get 11 weeks, and at $1,600 a week that is $17,600. Employers with fewer than 15 employees are generally exempt from this scale.
How is child support calculated in Australia?
Services Australia subtracts a self-support amount of $31,046 from each parent's income, shares the costs of the children by income, and then offsets each parent's share of care. With parent A on $90,000, parent B on $50,000, two children under 13 and A having 2 nights a fortnight, A pays about $9,500 a year, or $365 a fortnight.
How much is Parental Leave Pay in Australia?
In 2026-27 it is $200.94 a day, or $1,004.70 for a five-day week, before tax. For a baby born from 1 July 2026 the family can get 130 days, 26 weeks, with 20 days reserved for the other parent. Taking the 110 days that are not reserved pays $22,103 before tax, and the ATO adds a super contribution of about $2,652.
How much Child Care Subsidy will I get?
Your CCS percentage starts at 90% for family income up to $88,520 and falls by 1% for every $5,000 above it, and it applies to the fee or the hourly rate cap, whichever is lower. On a family income of $120,000, the percentage is about 83.7%. For 30 hours a week at $15.00 an hour, the subsidy is about $376.67 a week and the gap fee $73.33.
How much Family Tax Benefit will I get?
FTB Part A starts at $6,139.30 a year for each child aged 0 to 12 and reduces by 20 cents for each dollar of family income over $69,131, down to a base rate of $1,971 per child. Two children aged 0 to 12 on a family income of $85,000 get about $9,105 a year, $350.18 a fortnight, before Part B.
How much is JobSeeker Payment?
From 20 September 2026 the basic rate for a single person with no children aged 22 or over is $824.90 a fortnight. The payment starts to reduce once income is over $150 a fortnight: 50 cents for each dollar from $150 to $256 and 60 cents above that. With $400 of income in a fortnight, the payment falls by $139.40 to $685.50, before any supplements.
Why the 38-hour week keeps coming up
The National Employment Standards set a full-time ordinary week at 38 hours, and annual leave is four weeks of those ordinary hours. That gives 152 hours a year for a full-time employee, accruing progressively rather than landing in one block.
Part-time employees accrue on the same basis, proportional to their ordinary hours. So somebody working 19 hours a week accrues exactly half the rate, not a separate lesser entitlement. Casual employees, by contrast, do not accrue paid annual leave at all โ the casual loading is what stands in for it.
