Australian education calculators

Australia does not have one national school-leaving score. Each state and territory runs its own senior certificate and its own scaling, and the ATAR that comes out the other side is a rank, not a mark. The tools here estimate that rank from the subject results you already have, and work out what a HECS-HELP debt will take from your pay once you are earning.

Questions these calculators answer

Can you calculate your ATAR before results?

Not accurately. The aggregate can be calculated exactly from scaled scores, and this page does that for all five admissions centres. But the rank depends on scaling factors and a conversion table rebuilt each year from the whole cohort's results, neither of which exists until results are released.

How much HELP debt do I have to repay in 2026-27?

In 2026-27 you repay nothing until your repayment income passes $69,528. Above that you repay 15 cents per dollar over $69,528, then about $9,028 plus 17 cents per dollar over $129,717, and from $186,051 a flat 10% of your whole income. A repayment is never more than 10% of your income.

How do I calculate my WAM?

Multiply each unit's mark by its credit points, add the results, and divide by the total credit points. Marks of 78, 65, 72 and 58 in 6-point units and 85 in a 12-point unit give 2658 รท 36 = 73.83. Some universities add a weight to higher-year units, so check your own university's definition.

How do I calculate my GPA in Australia?

Give each grade its points (commonly HD 7, D 6, C 5, P 4, F 0), multiply by the unit's credit points, add them up and divide by the total credit points. Grades of HD, D, C and D in four 6-point units and an HD in a 12-point unit give 228 รท 36 = 6.33 on a seven-point scale.
