How much is Parental Leave Pay in Australia?
In 2026-27 it is $200.94 a day, or $1,004.70 for a five-day week, before tax. For a baby born from 1 July 2026 the family can get 130 days, 26 weeks, with 20 days reserved for the other parent. Taking the 110 days that are not reserved pays $22,103 before tax, and the ATO adds a super contribution of about $2,652.
Days and sharing
Each parent can take their own days and the family chooses how to split the shared days. If you are a single parent you can take all the days, and you may also give another person your approval to take some. Days can be taken in blocks of at least one day within the first two years after the birth or adoption. Take days in financial years with higher rates to get a little more.
Super and tax
Parental Leave Pay is taxed as income and there is no automatic super from your employer on it, but the government pays a super contribution for births from 1 July 2025. The contribution goes into your super fund after the end of the financial year and does not need a claim. You can add to your super with your own contributions as usual.

How this is calculated
The rule, step by step, so you can check any figure by hand.
daily rate (2026-27) = $200.94, which is the weekly national minimum wage รท 5; 2025-26 was $189.62total days for the family: 110, 120 or 130, depending on the child's date of birth or adoptiondays reserved for a partner: 10, 15 or 20 for the same periods; a single parent gets all the dayspay before tax = days ร daily ratesuper contribution = pay ร the super guarantee rate, paid by the ATO after the end of the financial year (for births from 1 July 2025)
The family can get up to 130 days of leave for a child born on or after 1 July 2026, which is 26 weeks on a five-day week. Of those, 20 days are reserved for the other parent on a use-it-or-lose-it basis, and the rest can be split however the parents agree. Up to 20 days can be taken at the same time as your partner.
Parental Leave Pay is taxable, and your employer or Services Australia withholds tax from it. For babies born from 1 July 2025, the ATO also pays a super contribution into your fund after the end of the financial year, calculated at the super guarantee rate on the payment, so you do not miss out on super while on leave. The rate changes on 1 July each year with the national minimum wage.

Employer pay

What it leaves out
The income test, the work test, multiple births and exemptions are not modelled. Services Australia decides eligibility and the exact payment.
