Screen Recorder Online

Screen recordings explain a problem to a colleague, show a customer how something works or capture a tutorial. This recorder uses your browser's screen-sharing feature, keeps the video on your device and gives you a download when you finish. Built for Australian users, with nothing sent to a server.

How do I record my screen online?

Press Record, choose a screen, window or tab to share, and press Stop when you are done. You can also add your microphone and the tab's sound. The video is made in your browser, so it is not uploaded, and it is saved as WebM or MP4 depending on the browser. Desktop browsers support this; most phones do not.

    What you can capture

Chrome and Edge can share a whole screen, an application window or a single tab, and capture the sound of a tab. Firefox shares screens and windows, and Safari offers fewer options. System audio capture is available on Windows and ChromeOS but not on macOS in most browsers.

If you only need a picture, your operating system's screenshot tool is quicker.

    Privacy and consent

Be careful what is on screen: notifications, other tabs and personal information are captured if you share a whole screen. Choose a single window or tab where you can. If you record a video call or a meeting, tell the other people, because recording rules differ by state and territory in Australia and under the Privacy Act 1988 in Australia.

To record only your voice, use the voice recorder.

    How this is calculated

The rule, step by step, so you can check any figure by hand.

    • the browser shows its own picker for a screen, window or tab
    • the media recorder captures video, and audio if you chose it, into memory
    • microphone and tab audio are mixed into one track when both are used
    • on Stop the chunks are joined into one file you can play and download

Recording the screen is a permission the browser guards carefully: you must pick what to share each time, and the browser shows an indicator while it records. The tool cannot record without you choosing, which is a safety feature, not a limitation.

File size depends on what is on screen. A mostly static screen at 30 frames a second can be around 1 MB a minute, while video or scrolling can be many times that. Lowering the frame rate reduces size.

    2. Typical sizeabout 15 to 60 MB
    3. FormatWebM or MP4

A video you can attach or upload.

The tool shows the real size.

    Formats

WebM plays in browsers, VLC and most editors, but some older software and platforms prefer MP4. If you need MP4, convert with desktop software or record in a browser that produces it.

    What it leaves out

No webcam overlay, annotations, trimming or editing. Long recordings use memory, so save long sessions in parts.

What this calculator does not do

    • Desktop browsers only; most phones cannot record the screen
    • Format set by the browser
    • System audio is available only on some platforms
    • No editing

    Common questions

    Is my screen recording uploaded?

No. It is kept in your browser and offered for download.

    Can I record sound?

Yes, from the microphone and, in some browsers, from the tab or system.

Why can't I record on my phone?

Most mobile browsers do not support screen capture. Use the phone's built-in screen recorder.

    What format is the video?

WebM in most browsers, MP4 where it is supported.

    Can I record a meeting?

Technically yes, but tell the participants, and check the rules on recording where you live.
